A YEAR IN THE VORTEX

Vortex Comics group is made up of a fluctuating undulating group of explosive minds. At its core there are founding members Sean Christensen (Awesome But True), Theo Ellsworth, Julia Gfrörer, Brodie Kelly, Amy Kuttab & Stefan Saito leading the way. On a weekly basis they meet to explore the vortex regions of the art of “Jam comics.”

Making comics in general is a difficult task as is, and jam comics have a bad rap for being nonsensical and usually disjointed obscene jokes. These explorers try to make each of their vortex spaces link up to make a fluid and nearly egoless seamless comic. The goal is to always make something totally rad, or mega sweet. In order to do so they always try to eat healthy and drink plenty of “inspiration fluids.” They meet one to two times a week. Their journeys can last increments of four to fourteen hours.

This show will reveal a year’s worth of Vortex Comics explorations collected in a single book. You will also find many wonders of the vortex as each of the founding members have put together sets of artifacts to gaze upon.
