FLOATING WORLD & DARK HORSE PRESENT:
THE MARQUIS: INFERNO – BOOK RELEASE & ART EXHIBIT BY GUY DAVIS
Before his Eisner award winning run on Hellboy spin-off BPRD, artist Guy Davis crafted this gothic horror masterpiece about a crusader in 18th century France who is either a savior or a lunatic. He has been blessed with the gift to see demons hiding in human form and he is given the means to send them back to the fires of Hell. Featuring some of the greatest architecture, setting, and character design in modern comics history, The Marquis: Inferno will be as stunning and impressive to new readers, as it was to fans who read it years ago.
WHO: Guy Davis
WHAT: Original art from The Marquis and BPRD, book release party (artist not in attendance, but lots of other promos and surprises courtesy of Dark Horse).
WHEN: Thursday, September 3rd, 6-10pm
WHERE: Floating World Comics, 20 NW 5th Ave #101
An artist’s artist, Guy Davis’ detailed, atmospheric work has adorned many acclaimed projects, including Sandman Mystery Theatre, Baker Street, The Nevermen and of course his long run as artist on BPRD at Dark Horse.
But many fans consider his best work on his creator-owned series, The Marquis. The violent and disturbing tale of Vol de Galle, a demon-hunter in the time of the Inquisition, who finds himself with the ability to see the real demons surrounding him. But the Marquis’ quest threatens his own sanity, and leads him into ever greater depths of darkness, including one of the most disturbing visions of Hell seen in comics or any medium.
In 2009 Guy Davis won the Eisner award for “Best Penciller/Inker” for his work on BPRD.
Exhibit ends Sept. 28th.
