Floating World is Moving – 3 Big Events this Week!

I’m very pleased to announce that Floating World Comics is moving to a bigger and better location next week. Our new shop will be at 20 NW 5th Ave suite 101, next door to the Portland Art Center, sharing a corner with Upper Playground, Just Be, Backspace, Ground Kontrol, etc… The neighborhood just keeps getting better. Conveniently, there’s three big events this week to coincide with the move.

FRIDAY, OCT. 27TH

This weekend is the 3rd annual Stumptown Comics Fest at the Oregon Convention Center: Portland Ballroom (777 NE Mlk Jr. Blvd). Friday from 4-8pm then Saturday from 10-6pm. Featuring: Keith Knight’s “Fear of a Black Marker” Slideshow, 20 Years of Paul Chadwick’s Concrete, and The World-Famous Comic Art Battle.

Featured guests include: me, Colleen Coover, Zack Soto, Ezra Clayton Daniels, Jonathan Hill, APAK!, Farel Dalrymple, Steve Lieber, Aaron Renier, Lilli Carre, Kieron Dwyer, Paul Guinan, Steve Lafler, Jesse Reklaw, Shannon Wheeler, and hundreds more. Remember, this is the small press/indy comics fest, not the superhero one! Floating World will have a table there right by Cosmic Monkey Comics and Fantagraphics and I’m bringing all my secret weapons.

SATURDAY, OCT. 28TH

In case you didn’t know, Portland is the coolest comics town in the country. Local publishers Top Shelf and Oni Press are presenting a kick ass after party, Comic Tonic, taking place at the Voodoo Lounge (53 NW 1st Ave) from 9pm-2am on Saturday.

It’s a free party and I will be providing the jams as DJ Ghostdad. Fer reals. Expect some funky soul disco glam elektro crack hop Bowie/Prince/MJ and of course, The Knife. Speaking of, this is Halloween weekend so expect some creative costumes from the comics community.

Sunday will be the last day that the old shop is open. I’m packing up Mon, Tues, Wed, to prepare for the grand opening on November 2nd!

THURSDAY, NOV. 2ND

This will surely be our best First Thursday event yet! Jamie Rich and artist Joelle Jones will be onhand to sign copies and display pages from their new Oni book, ’12 Reasons Why I Love Her’.

Joelle’s art is gorgeous and Jamie’s writing has never been better. Check this week’s Mercury Prize Fight for a chance to win a free copy of the book and other cool items! My new neighbors, the Portland Art Center will have their door open and they have a couple really cool installations planned for that evening. Evan Meister is returning to decorate the new space in case you missed his awesome show this month. Plus of course all the other events on the corner (Backspace, Just Be, etc…).

Much love and thanks to everyone who made it happen. I’m really gonna miss this little spot. Hope to see you all soon!
